Check my Lhasa hotel tip on my Lhasa VT page. I loved the hotel and the big breakfast. And it was in an easy walk to the Barkhor area.

You have to bargain for the price. The listed price for a double room with internet access was 580 rmb and we only paid 220. This was in June 2006, before the train started. Not sure what the price is now.

The address and phone number are in my tip.

Tibet hotels are still slightly below international expectations! The "stars" don't represent anything either!

I was there last spring, and I forgot the name of the place we stayed. We did everything through a tour group... we found it was easier that way than booking things our self. I thought the cost was worth it to make sure we had good room and board.

If you'd like I can ask our tour guide what are the names of the place we stayed. She did a really good job with our trip, making sure we saw a lot and had enough time to sight see and shop.

You can choose many clean hotels with hot water in Lhasa. Mandala hotel, Kailashi hotel, Shangbala hotel and many any other 3-star hotel. You are not suggested to choose some budget guesthouse. I would like use more 50-100 RMB to stay in some cheap hotels.

I ended up staying at the Kyichu and loved it. The roof afforded me great shots
of Potala at night(it was lit up when we were there) and at sunrise. Walking distance to Old Town, Jonhang, Potala. Good food, good vibe, garden to hang out, rooms vary in condition, our first stay room was nice, nothin fancy, on our return fron Shigaste our room was REALLY nice.Hot water was not an issue, nor was heat. I also loved the employees, really nice, accommodating,& helpful.
Also has very good food and western menu, as well as local stuff.
I would stay there again.
