Buses are slow, school-style rigs but are reliable. Schedules are a bit hard to find out sometimes - you will usually get a couple of different answers from the locals. You can turn up anywhere along the route and be picked up. Also, hitchhiking is amazingly easy - in fact sometimes you you don't even have to try and you will be offered a ride - just a way of life down there. Cockscomb is a bit tricky without your own vehicle. I shared a taxi-style ride up with a few guys I met but the price suddenly changed when we got to the park and an argument followed. Luckily I was staying for a couple nights and was able to not involve myself. The other guys had to be concerned with being picked up by a guy they just argued with. When I left I walked most of the downhill road out and was picked up a couple miles from the highway by a truck. Anyway, your options are hire a taxi (expensive), guided trip (more expensive and restrictive), hitchhike (unreliable but cheap) or walk it (cheap, long and hot). Not an easy place to go without a car but worth it.
