Punta Cana Travel Forum

I am going to arrive to Punta Cana Airport in Nov. but my final destination is Santo Domingo, I am arriving around 4:30, that means around 6 pm I will be able to start my trip to Santo Domingo on a Saturday.
My question is about transportation from Punta Cana to Santo Domingo.
I have already contact a local travel agency in StoDomingo and they ask 350us to take me to Santo Domingo. That is not a fair rate. Do you know if there is a public transportation safe traveling on Saturdays after 6 pm from Punta Cana Airport to Santo Domingo???
What option do I have?
Or, the best is to spent one night there and take an excursion from the hotel the next day to Santo Domingo??

first of all the rate your travel agency wants to charge you is way expensive...at Punta Cana airport there is Tourist taxi service 24 hours, drivers have as identification a pink shirt, and yellow van or car depends of the amounts of pax if 4 or 12...also these taxis have a sign in the front of the wind shield : sitratural which is the organization they belong to. The actual rate Punta Cana airport to Santo Domingo is U$200.- one way. but if you want to save some dollars also could arrange a local taxi driver which will save you about U$50 dollars, if get the right one which you could contact in advanced they are safe too as they belong to Tour Operators but they get extra money by doing this.

Hey I can see you are asking also for public transportation. Well,there is but check what you have to do; arrive at Punta Cana airport and take a tourist taxi cab or van or car and ask them to take you to bavaro..that is 30 minutes from the airport it is a touristical area with more than 40 resorts all inclusive but also motels to spend a night...the taxi cost is U$35 dollars. hotel stay could be from 700 RD$ ( U$20.-) motel with one room AC, bathroom, TV, etc in the center of bavaro or over U$80.- for a night in an all inclusive resort...the next day you will need to take a cab to take you to the bus terminal (U$5) and the bus is leaving at 7am, 10am, 2pm or the last at 4pm local time in PUJ. This is an EXPRESO directly non stop from Bavaro to Santo Domingo, the cost is RD$350.- ( U$10.-) the terminal in bavaro is located at FRIUSA about a kilometer or two from the hotels or motels...and the terminal in santo Domingo ( the safest is the last one ) at the maximo gomez avenue...close to Barcelo Lina, Jaragua, Melia santo Domingo or hispaniola santo Domingo hotel 5 stars deluxe...i don't knopw which hotel or place are you going but a local taxi is available at this last terminal and the maximun cost is about U$5 to take you anywhere in the city.

I hope this can help you better than leaving from Punta cana the same night in a cab at the price of U$200.- or U$150.- one way and driving from 6pm arriving in punta cana you may be arriving in santo Domingo at 10pm...better spend a night in Bavaro..relax and the next morning would be better and safe.
