Food name, please! Posted: Fri September 12, 2008 11:51 AM UTC
Hello, I was in Damasco last year, and I ate a delicious mezze, I think is called KISHKE, but I am not sure. Is creamy cheese, with pieces of nuts, I believe, oil and pomegranate sometimes. I hope you can help me, thanks you and sorry for my english!

Kishke is the name of a Jewish dish but not made with cheese. There's a Syrian/Lebanese milk-based food called Kishk, but this sounds more like something made with labneh. See http://www.slowfoodbeirut.org/index_inv.php?c=inv4 and http://weekly.ahram.org.eg/2001/550/li1.htm.

Hello, and thank you for your news.
The cheese that I would to identify, is a popular mezze, served with oil, pieces of nuts and grains of pomegranate. Someone, perhaps a Syrian peaple, can tell me what it is? Thank you very much

Hello, it's possible that the name is something near to chanclich. It is a curate cheese, people eat grated with olive oil and bread. It is very delicious and I remember my grandmother preparing it here, in Brasil.

May be you are talking about Labnah. Which is a white creemy dip, just like Homos and Motabbal. Olive oil and pomegranate might be added to it.
Kishk is a salty hard yougurt based food eaten in the Arabian Gulf area. I don't exactly what kishke is in Syria. I'll ask a Syrian relative and let you know
