A friend and I are renting a car and driving from the Toronto airport to Stratford, but we would like to avoid taking the 401 as much as possible. Does anyone have any reccomendations of routes to take that would be direct, but not directly along the 401?
We both love exploring and scenic little towns, so any good reccomendations for places off the beaten track that are worth exploring would be much appreciated too! Thanks! |

Unfortunately there are a lot of people living along the 401 west of Toronto.
If you want to go off the beaten track you have to head north and then west. From Toronto go north to HY11 and west to Kleinburg.Then towards the Caledon Hills and then west to Fergus/Elora , then to St. Jacobs ( north of Kitchener/Waterloo) and then cross country to Stratford.

and that is quite a series of scenic routes recommended by Racoon above :-)
