Marseille Organised boat-tour to visit the calanques in Marseille in October?
Posted: Tue September 9, 2008 03:32 PM UTC
Hi,

I'm planning to visit Marseille, France, in October and would like to know whether it is possible to go on an organised boat-tour to see the calanques during this period?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Your question reminded me of a lovely visit to the Calanques from east of Marseille at a seaside town called Cassis.
I have opened the web page and have been listening to the background music in French. Have left it on as it is so soothing. But the female singer is certainly not French. I wonder who she is !

The mistral wind that blows with such force down the Rhone valley at times, is certainly a deciding factor as to whether the boat goes out to sea.

I took one out of Cassis and it was wonderful but a word of warning. I got drenched - soaked to the bone - on the way back when some large waves developed and the boat was stuffed with people. You might want to carry a poncho or other waterproof with you or have a change of clothes ready.

Of course you can sail from Marseille or Cassis, if you have a car.

Grovier- neat idea sailing with a car. Doesn't it leak though when you open the door ?
For budget and eco friendly tourists, there is a nice railway that links Marseille and Cassis in less than 30 minutes. Saves paying those extortionate parking fees.

There are a few hotels in Cassis including this one http://pagesperso-orange.fr/jardemil/index.html but never stayed so cannot judge if this is the ideal place to sleep.
