Hi could any one advise us on what is expected as a tip in jamaica please porters /maids ect we like to reward good service but are unsure what is expected

if your hotel is all inclusive, no need to leave a tip. However, it is a good idea to leave about $20usd at the end of your stay for the cleaning crew. Try to see if u can hand it to her personally. If you leave it in the room, the first person in there will take it. If you happen to see her, ask her if she will be working on your departure date. If she is, arrange to meet her before you go. Trust me, she will show up. if you are a drinker....tip your bartender. give your luggage handler a couple of dollars. Tip in US dollars. They frown when they are tipped in Jamaican dollars. Just tip whatever you feel is appropriate.

Bring small bills with you just for tips. One thing about Jamaica is that there is always a shortage of change. They have a one thousand dollar bill, and a beer might cost $100.00 JMD. So if you have only one beer, the bar has to give you $900.00 in change. You can see how the bar or any place can have a shortage of change!
