Shanghai Water village
Posted: Sun September 7, 2008 02:37 PM UTC
Last night I watched a local tv programme which showed the host visiting a water village somewhere on the road between Hangzhou and Shanghai. I couldn't understand the name mentioned because the pronunciation of the man was bad. But I saw it was a village without any roads and its people only walked or cycled on inter-connecting footpaths in front of the homes. Is this the same for all water villages or is this a special one? If it is the latter, can anyone give me the name of the village?

An, there are several of these water villages near Shanghai all have similar lanes and waterways. Zhouzhuang, Xitong, Zhujiajiao and of course Tongli with its famous sex museum (I missed that one). Best way to visit is to join a day bus tour at the Shanghai tour center at the Shanghai Sports stadium.

Either Xitang, or Wuzhen. Look on the photos on my VT Xitang page and see if it was the one you saw on TV?
