Is it safe for a lady to travel alone in Seoul? I'll be going to Seoul in November and have 3 days to spend there. Any suggestions on the MUST DO, MUST SEE and MUST EAT in Seoul?

I felt perfectly safe as a woman alone in Seoul. My suggestions for what to see there are in my Travel Page for Seoul, if you put Seoul in the destination search box at top of this page you will find tips VT members have already given which answer your questions.

www.tour2korea.com Check this link for things to see and do and eat....there is just too much to try and advise on without knowing your interests, but there is something for everyone.

Check my pages as well, but Seoul is one of the safest cities in the world so don't worry about traveling alone. If you have traveled any other major cities in the world alone and have some street smarts, then you will have no problem. Enjoy.

Yes, I think it is safe but just use common sense as you travel around in the evenings. I went to Seoul earlier this year if you would like to check out my travel pages. Have a great time!

I recommend you try Black noodle in chinese restaurant.
Black noodle named JaJangMyon is developed from Incheon chinatown around
100years ago.

The main sauce is from china, but with caramel it tasted sweet and coloured
black.

This black noodle is varies to two kinds of standard JaJangMyon and GanJaJangMyon,
standard one is added starch, while GanJaJangMyon is cooked with oil only.

If you need larger bowl of noolde, you can order Gob-bae-gi (big woul )
which cost you 1,000won more,

when you have a sit and order your noodle, they will serve with a cup of
water and sliced onion and pickled raddish and dipping black sauce it's free of charge.
Notice that black diping sauce !
this is raw black sauce !

If you are inclined to enjoy common life , you can also order Soju.
We usually drink Soju with Black noodle.

As a Seoul citizen, I can say JaJangMyon is a specialized food only
tasted in Korea.

If you like it, you can also buy jajangmyum ramen in Stores.

Enjoy Korea !

Seoul is a very safe city when compared to other cities worldwide. Just keep your head on straight, and you'll have no problems.

Here for only three days?
Check out a palace, Insa-dong (artsy), Olympic Park, Dongdaemun (shopping), and Hongdae at night if you're up for some all-night clubbing.

I live in Seoul. Shoot me a mail if you have any specific questions.

Oh yes, I must try the black noodle. Is it readily available anywhere in the Chinese restaurants in Seoul or is there any restaurant or food place that specialises in black noodle in Seoul itself?

You can get Jjajjang-myeon at pretty much any Korean restaurant.

If you end up in a restaurant that doesn't have it, just go to the restaurant next door because they will. :)

Dear Wati81

Although you can try in any Chinese restaurant in Korea, I recommend some chinese restaurant located near Embassy of China in Myongdong,Seoul.

Also you can order Champong( variation of beefnoodle soup with redpepper )
or Gul-Champong ( Oyster Champong , try it if you are tired of spicy food )

Cheers

Great! I've seen so much of the black noodle from the Korean drama serial. I have gotta try it.

At the same time, is it easy for me to find food that has no pork or contains pork lard? I'm a Muslim so I don't eat pork.

There are a handful of halal restaurants and shops in the Itaewan area, around the mosque. Pretty good food, and not expensive.

Pork is the main meat that Koreans eat, other than seafood and chicken.

Mike is partially correct. Although Koreans eat a lot of pork, they also eat a lot of beef (bulgogi and kalbi) chicken, as well as fish. They tend to use vegetable oil instead of lard when they cook things (keeps better) so you probably don't have to worry too much about the pork...it is fairly easy to avoid. Incidentally, there have been riots recently over US beef imports to Korea so beef is a pretty important staple.

Hi Wati81

You can find halal restaurant near Itaewon Mosque.
My favorite rastarant is Parkistani Restaurant Mogul.
but price range is avove normall korean dishes, also I tip the waiters
while in other restaurant I don't need to do tipping in Korea.

Only thing you take good care of dish is Kimchichigae,
Koreans usually serve pork Kimchichigae, so when you try it , specially order
for Tuna Kimchichigae.

Korean love seafood very much, so you can also enjoy many thing.

For blacknoodle, pork meet is normaly added,
So be careful to order SANSUN JAJANGMYEN, or YUMI JAJANGMYEN to avoid having
pork!

Excellent! I'm already in Seoul now and am looking forward in touring Seoul after my event ends. By the way, I am thinking of visiting Korean folk village. Would you recommend?

Hi Wati

You are just in the Red leaf season, so you can see many falling leaves on street.

Although Climate is so cold now, I think you should go Korean Folk village.
Because it's good chance for Fall season.

Please get on more clothe on, also hat and gloves and do not miss this season.

If you need some help ,
you can make a phone call .

Good Luck !
