I have to join Lanzhou university as Postdoctoral Fellow. I would like to know that how much RMB will be sufficient to sustain a two person familiy if accomodation is free of cost. I an a vegetarian and occasionaly take Non veg food. Is vegetarian food available. I am going to get 1600RMB per month. Is it sufficient???

well, if you are Chinese, I think that is enough. But for foreigners, at first , you have to find good and cheap place to shop. I think since you are stay in University, every University has canteen, where cooked Chinese food will cost less then 20 yuan per person per day. The veg will be even cheaper than meat. :)
You can also cook for youself. Better ask local people. Veg market in China is everywhere, full of fresh and cheap things.

Well, 16oo is not so much as you (as á rich foreigner) as expected to pay more in cas you have to, like for example at the hospital. If you cant provide enough money as some people expect from you, you might somehow regret having enter a local hospital her.
