Vanakam, I already replied to your e-mail regarding the guide for Siem Reap.

For hotels, I recommend the Prince D'Angkor in Siem Reap, along Sivatha Boulevard. You can book using the Asiarooms website, they've never let me down before.

Its perfectly safe to travel in Siem Reap, the people are very friendly & honest.

I suggest you do a 5-day-4 night thing in Siem Reap, & remember, each of you need a 3-day pass to do a proper exploration of the monuments in Siem Reap (US $ 40/- per person). The monuments alone will take you 3 days, & you can use the 4th day to explore & shop around in Siem Reap.

Do you plan to do Phnom Penh, as well. If so, I suggest you pay the guide to drive you the 4.5 hrs from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh. Its much more convenient than the 8++ hours by crowded coach or dodgy riverboat.

Let me know what your plans are for Cambodia, & I'll give you my 2 cents worth of assistance & advice.

Cheers.

The last time i was in Siem Reap, I was with someone from malaysia and we stayed at MandalayInn (you can check the website) and Maung Maung, the Burmese owner of the hotel who also works at a 5 star property in SRP, organized an airconditoned car, and an english speaking guide. it turned out well.
Ifyou have never been there, at least three days are necessary to get a good impression of Angkor and more days if you wish to visit outlying temples.
By the way, when I was in Mandalay Inn, Maung maung told me that the tourism from malaysia and Singapore to SRP has dramatically increased since the introduction of Air Asia and Jetstar flights.
SRP is perfectly safe. You can eat Khmer, Thai, Viet food in abundance and there are a wide variety of restaurants.
there are over 200 hotels in Siem Reap now. I can only recommend Mandlay Inn since that is where I have stayed many many times.
It is good to read up a little bit on Angkor before you go especially the Hindu Budhist syncretism of the era. In fact you would get a better understanding of the history of Malaysia itself when you understand the history of Angkor.
All the Best

I was there last july 2008 and i found it perfectly safe even for female travellers. of course as always, you have to exercise common sense safety measures. :)

your hotel can arrange all tours for you all you need to do is to give them a list of your specific requirements.

Hello

You will find it very safe in Siem Reap. It is a very fiendly place and many tourists from Malaysia, Korea, China, Japan, Europe, Australia and many more nations.

A very good temple guide (also a friend of mine) who speaks English, Korean, Chinese, Khmer etc can be emailed at: Borin_bun@hotmail.com

Good luck with your Travels

yes it is to travel in Siemreap...
no need to hire a travel guide...just hire a tuktuk and its driver will serve as your tour guide..they can speak english very well...
just give him an extra pay.

i suggest www.thevillasiemreap.com
check out their packages - not too pricy - comes with the guide
the guide is directly hired by the villa, so you can be sure that it is safe

i just arrived back from siem reap, and we had a guide proposed by our friends previously visited angkor with him
he is an officially licensed english speaking guide, his name is Draith, 28 years old, having his own car (Camry) can drive you around the temples and the countryside as well, he is able to organize you a tailored trip
we'd been there 3 days which can be enought but the place is so nice that we could easily stay for 2 or 3 additional days
people are very friendly, the food is very good and the high class accomodations are also not too expensive compared to the european prices
i suggest to visit the floating villages on the Tonle Sap lake as well, and if i had more time i would go up to the mountains as well, and could visiting some remote temples
the guide's rate is usd 30/day regardless the size of the group and the car transportation is usd 30 as well
to contact him, or for more infos visit his website: www.smiles-of-angkor.com
we were staying at Tara Angkor hotel, which was a very good 4* hotel, i can also recommend it

60$ per day? That seems quite expensive. I would try Mara Long and his team at www.angkortourguides.com - They are only 25$ per day for English Guides.

add to that 25 dollars for the car.. why not spend the extra ten dollars and get somebody who has already been proven to be good? write to www.mandalayinn.com and ask maung maung about the rate for a car and a guide.. you would see that it is creeping up there.. gone are the days a car and guide for 25 usd.. long gone
