Honolulu Short Layover in Honolulu
Posted: Thu September 4, 2008 07:15 PM UTC
Our ship comes into port in the early AM on Saturday and our flight leaves at 3:00 PM. We are debating what to do in the meantime (with luggage in tow). Renting a car to either go to the other side of the island and back, or to go to another site (i.e. Pearl Harbor) seems the best route. We would love to see as much as possible before we leave Oahu...to get a good "view" of the island. Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance!

You won't have a lot of time to get the the North Shore..if there isn't much traffic..maybe 60 minutes or less....
Pearl Harbor by car might be about 10 minutes and/or then if you go the other direction ..Downtown and Chinatown are about 15/20 minutes from the Airport..Waikiki is about 25/30 minutes by car.. In the Bus..it is a whole lot more time cause of ALL the stops they make......

That's not a lot of time to see much, since you probably won't get off the ship until 0900 hours at the earlest once you clear customs. Since you are debarking on your own and managing your own bags, I would just stay on the ship until the last minute and then go hang around the airport.

HNL is a pretty nice place to hang out and they have some good places to eat and drink.

You could also leave as early as possible, take the ships shuttle to the airport, check in your bags, then grab a cab to some place close and hang out for a couple of hours. Check on how early you can check in as some airlines are 4-6 hours prior to flight.

Thanks for your information! We ended up staying on board until 10 AM then rented a car. We drove not too far away to a beach, sat and watched the surfers. How mezmorizing! Then we headed to Waikiki Beach to check it out and walk around. Perfect use of such little time.
