Hello, Posted: Thu September 4, 2008 02:36 PM UTC
We will be staying for either 1 or 2 nights in Liverpool, in late October.I would appreciate if you could help me with the following questions.
-Any recommendations for a hotel offering something special from Beatles?
-Best tour to see the most from Beatles? (i already attended Magical Mystery tour and want more)
-Besides the Museum and the Cavern, are there any stores selling souvenirs of the Beatles?
-Best way to go from Liverpool to Stansted Airport?
-I believe it is almost impossible to attend a game of Everton or Liverpool but at least we would like to take a tour at Anfield, what am i supposed to do for that?
Thanks a lot...

Why not try the new Hard Days Night hotel located next to Matthew St or Stuart Sutcliff's house at Aigburth Drive which is now a B & B?
At Liverpool train station I saw a travel Leaflet advertising a Tour of Anfield- try their website.
I like the Jacaranda pub which has murals painted by stuart Sutcliffe. Last time I was in Liverpool I walked around Percy St and Gambier Terraca where John & Stu went to Art college. Also near by is Ye Crack pub where they drank, not so many tourists which made the walk better.

The official UK railway site is:
www.nationalrail.co.uk
You will find all trains and fares listed accurately there. You do not need to look at specific train operator's websites, ot use them for advance booking should you wish to book online. This is not necessary, although cheaper fares can often be purchased up to 6pm the day before travel: you can but these at the station too. An alternative site is www.thetrainline.com but, as far as I am aware, neither site will send tickets abroad.
You may find something of interest here:
http://www.beatlestours.co.uk/
but you should be aware that whilst the Beatles started their careers in Liverpool, there is a limited amount to actually see there (and you may well have already seen it on your previous tour).
I assume you have already been to the Beatles Shop at 31, Mathew Street? I think that is the only dedicated souvenir shop in the city.

stadium tours:

Liverpool are playing Portsmouth at home on Oct 29th. As its a midweek match you may get lucky for tickets if it coincides with your visit. If tickets are available they go on general sale on Oct 14th - check the LFC website nearer the time. If you're just keen to experience a match and not too bothered about which part of the stadium you sit, you could also check the Portsmouth site as you may be able to get a ticket for the visitors end.

It is perfectly possible to attend a game and I recommend that you see Liverpool at Anfield -- it is AMAZING.
There are always people selling tickets outside the ground. Last year we met a couple who paid 95 pounds each to see Liverpool v Chelsea.
My husband had paid double that for our tickets, purchased from some agency in USA months in advance.
Before the game go into The Albert Hotel, just to the left of the main gates, it is where many Koppites gather before the game to get the singing started and it's almost as good as the match!

The people selling tickets outside the ground are ticket touts. I believe they are acting illegally. I may be wrong, but this is my understanding. 95GBP for two tickets is entirely outrageous.

Touts are illegal but here in merseyside were not overly bothered about things like that ;-)
Liverpool Chelsea is a BIG GAME so £95 is probably the going rate... you wont pay anywhere near that much for Liverpool Pompey. I doubt you will struggle to get an Everton Ticket though unless there playing Man U or Liverpool its rarely a sell out at goodison (check out there official website for tickets)
Alternitavly you could always come over ourside of the river and watch Tranmere with me!!
I think Beatles wise the Magical mystery tour and the museum will be enough for you think they have pretty much everything covered you can also spend the night in Mathew St have a few beers in the cavern, lennons bar, rubber soal and the grapes. Theres a beatles shop in the museum and an inderpendant one in Mathew St. As another poster has stated there is now a Hard Days night hotel which is beatles themed other than that theres plenty of good hotels in the city now and the Albert Dock is home to many a new trendy bar and some great hotels.

Leics, 95 pounds a ticket is not outrageous. I just checked with husband what he (I emphasise the HE) paid for our tickets -- $900 Aust for 2 tickets!!
That is outrageous!
We'd have been much better off buying tickets from a tout -- of course we would have felt terrible, with it being illegal and all.

Paying $900 dollars to watch the red muck is horrendus, seriously you need to call the club and buy hospitality tickets before you pay that again and you'll get a meal and a bottle of wine chucked in.
