Hi,

I'll be in Damascus in October.

Does anybody know if there is a shop in Damascus where I can buy authentic Syrian swords? If so, what price do they typically sell for?

If you're looking for true Damascene steel, you're out of luck. Knowledge of the technique has been lost for centuries and all you'll find today is patterned steel, very pretty but not the real thing. There are plenty of shops selling blades of all sizes made this way - just don't believe anyone who tells you they are selling "authentic" Damascened steel. There are lots of metal workers at the bottom end of Straight Street - all making much the same stuff.
Have a great time - Damascus is a fantastic place. I'm envious!
