Provincia de Buenos Aires Need help on where to stay in Buenos Aires!
Posted: Wed September 3, 2008 03:40 PM UTC
My sister and I will be going to Buenos Aires end of October/ begining of November.

We've both never been before and don't know where to stay. We are looking into the Hilton in Puerto Madero because it seems very nice and affordable. But I have no idea about the location.

We are 24 and 27 and not really into the club scene, but we would like to try nice restaurants and cafes, and do sight-seeing and shopping during the day.

We are willing to pay for cab rides, throughout the city, but don't know how expensive they are.

Can not trell you about the hotel itself; the location is OK.
Be aware you will to use taxis or public transport to reach the majjor sites in Bs As. But they are rather cheap.
See for more info about taxis: http://members.virtualtourist.com/vt/tfr/1/17875d/9/1762a3/

happy travels

The hotel is indeed very nice but for me the location is not so good. If you are more comfortable in a large American style hotel then by all means stay there and you will most likely enjoy the experience. If you want something closer to good shopping and better restaurants then I would recommend the Loi Suites Recoleta and the Melia Recoleta. Both are in the Recoleta which is the most upscale barrio in Buenos Aires. If you enjoy a bit more bohemian experience then try the BoBo Hotel in Palermo SoHo.The BoBo stays booked solid so you may have trouble getting a room there. This area, although not so close to the major tourists sites, has fantastic shopping, galleries and some of the best restaurants in the city. Besides the BoBo there is SoHo All Suites, and Home Hotel. In your age group I would think you feel much more comfortable at any of these hotels as opposed to the Hilton and get a much more authentic experience.

This is a wonderful city and I have no doubt that where ever you stay you will have a great time.

suerte

Hi! Sounds like a fun trip! The location of Puerto Madero is great if you are going to be spending lots of time downtown but if you are looking for a more "neighborhood" feel I suggest staying in Recoleta or Palermo. There are lots of cute cafes, restaurants and good shopping - espcially in Palermo Viejo at Plaza Serrano. Also, this is a more central area so you could spend less on cabs. I am not familiar with hotels but the new popular option is renting a flat. It is usually cheaper when you are staying for more than a few days and it allows you privacy and space from other tourists. I always recommend using http://www.buenosairesstay.com because there are tons of rental agencies around town and I know for sure that this group can be trusted without a doubt. Good luck and I'm sure you'll have a blast.

We usually stay at the Howard Johnsons on Florida - the hotel's fine (much better than the average HoJo), very nice staff - just be sure not to get one of the 01 rooms (101, 201, etc - see tip on my Argentina page) and the location's brilliant, easy walking to so many places, metro just around the corner, the city's main shopping street on the doorstep, pedestrian mall so no traffic and quiet, our favourite restaurants (Tancat (Spnaish tapas bar - great food and atmosphere) and Establo - very traditional BA city restaurant, brilliant meat and the best empanadas in town)just around the corners. My husband stayed at the Claridge last month for the first time, nice too but not quite as good a location as HJ. Just be sure it's the FLORIDA HJ you book if you choose to stay there - the other one isn't so well located.

Puert Madero is really just apartments, offices, hotels and restaurants - nice for an evening meal but I wouldn't stay there, it's a bit out of the way.

Plenty of taxis, cheap enough but the subte (metro) is cheaper, safe, extensive and will get you everywhere.
