Hi,
I'm traveling with my husband for 8-9 days to mauritius and we are eagerly awaiting this break. would like to know:

1. climate then - to carry summer wear or lite wollens and if its rainy too?
2. which is pref place to stay - north or south? we would like to be around places that are happening with some night life and close to the beach..
3. hotel/ b&B recomendations - planned budget is approx 50-80 USD per night.

all help appreciated.

if you want night life you should be close to Grand Baie

Agree with Jammon. Grand Baie in the north has the better climate and has shops, bars, restaurants and a nightclub or two, though still not on a par with European resorts. It rains all year, as its a tropical island, but most rain in their summer with a peak in February/March, which is also the peak of the cyclone season. In winter the rain is sporadic, the odd day for a few hours, but I always take a brolly anyway. Your budget is a bit low, as Mauritius tends to cater for high end tourism and even their 2* hotels are relatively expensive.
You could always try self catering. There are lots of places in Grand Baie and more so in Perybere, just a few minutes drive away. Least rainfall is October.
