We are considering a home exchange in Calpe, Spain in the fall of 2009. We like to spend some time at the pool and beach but mostly like to take day trips, walk and be active. What is the best month to do this? September, October or perhaps mid September to mid October? I tend to wilt if it is too hot.

I was in Spain mid september two years ago and the temperature was 37C in Seville. Further north in Barcelona and Madrid it was circa 25-28C. From experience, Valencia is closer to the latter. You can reach day time temperatures of 22-23 right up to December although nights will get chillier.

I have family who live near here, the weather can vary year on year but often September is nice, warm and sunny. October has got the potential to be a bit rainy/overcast - not that cold though. I would advise not going too much later than mid-Sept if you want to sit on the beach/swim. Calpe has a lovely big beach and lots of places to sit outside in the evening and eat/drink if the weather is mild.
