| London | Best of London in 3 days Posted: Wed September 3, 2008 12:32 AM UTC
Hello all,
I'd like to ask you to point the spots/circuits that I should not miss when visiting London for about 3 days. You can give a fast answer (just say the names), then I look for it (Mostly I like to walk in the streets, so, no museums please). Is there any nice pub/bar near Victoria with live music for a beer in the end of the day ? Thanks in advance ! |

The area around Shad Thames and the Design Museum is a good place for walking (you don't have to go IN the Design Museum) - there are good views of the Thames and interesting old warehouse buildings.
Bloomsbury is also a good area for wandering (leafy squares, lots of blue plaques showing where famous people lived).

I thoroughly recommend you checking out Borough Market - London's oldest food market (closest train station is London Bridge). From there you can walk west along Southbank (the path that follows the Thames River) all the way into Westminster - you will pass Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, Tate Modern, St Paul's Cathedral, Millennium Bridge, Royal Festival Hall, London Eye, Golden Jubilee Bridge and Houses of Parliament along the way (some are on the same side of the river as you, some are on the other side, but all are visible from Southbank). It's a lovely, popular walk. For an alternative, not as well-known stroll, head east instead. This way you'll pass Tower Bridge then walk amongst the alleyways and old warehouse buildings - very old-style London.

Spice of Life- http://www.spiceoflifesoho.com/ Also, if youre looking for good outdoor shopping w/ local food vendors try Spitalfield's Market: http://www.visitspitalfields.com/ You have to try the Turkish Delights- theyre delicious.

If you've not been before and want to do some of the major sights on a walk I recommend the following route:
Start Leicester Square (theatre district) South to Trafalgar Square, through Admiralty Arch to Mall (great views of Buckingham Palace) Into St James's Park (a beautiful spot), walk through to Palace and back out to Whitehall through Horseguards Parade Past Downing Street and south to Parliament Square - from here you can see Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey On to Westminster Bridge for more great views From here, it depends on interest and stamina. You could cross to the South Bank and enjoy a lovely walk heading east towards the Globe Theatre, Tate Modern etc. Or you could head back north, across the Strand and up into Covent Garden for good pubs, restaurants, people-watching, shopping etc If you want more info I have a couple of general tips on my London page describing these walks in a little more detail :-) Enjoy your visit!
