São Paulo Boat Restaurant
Posted: Tue September 2, 2008 06:19 PM UTC
When I went to visit my aunt in 1972 we went to a boat restaurant or bar, do you know where and what city is the boat in? Also there was a statue in the middle of the street or park that I can't remember where I seen it. Can you help me figure out where they are located? I would appreciate your help. Mary

Hi!

have a look at this site and tell me if this one was te statue that you remember. http://www.passeiopaulistano.com/2007/10/22/monumento-as-bandeiras/

If it is not, try to say more about the statue. I will help you.
About the restaurant boat, I remember that was a old one at Sao Paulo as well, but it doesn´t exist anymore.

Take Care

I am not from Sao Paulo but my father was paulista. I believe the park you mentioned is Parque Ibirapuera.
* At the below link you may find one video from Monumento aos Bandeirantes.

http://esculturasemsaopaulo.blogspot.com/2007/09/monumento-s-bandeiras-victor-brecheret.html

Click on the YouTube video right down the "Visualisar localização no mapa" transcription.

* I was not born in São Paulo but I know just a little bit of it. I had been
there some times and Monumento aos Bandeirantes was very near to my relatives
I was young and I believe there was a "Boat Restaurant" near the monument.
This restaurant attracked our attention when we passed by car around...
* Monumento aos Bandeirantes (Victor Brecheret made it) is surrounded by
Av Brasil, Av Pedro Alvares Cabral and Rua Manuel da Nobrega.
* I never went to "Boat Restaurant" but I believe today this site is over.
However the building was so nice it may be moved somewhere near/far the
old place.
* The old people who lives in Sao Paulo may have another answer to you...

Note:
Quem nasce na cidade de São Paulo, é PAULISTANO. Someone who was born in the city of Sao Paulo is called a PAULISTANO.

Quem nasce no estado de São Paulo, (em qualquer cidade) é PAULISTA. Someone who was born in the (very big) state of Sao Paulo (in any city) is called a PAULISTA.

So by logic a Paulista, one who for example lives on an isolated farm in the middle of nowhere, may never have set foot in Sao Paulo city, nor know anything at all about it.

Claro. Correto. Meu pai não era paulistano. Era paulista... Acertou. Muito bem!
Porem, não altero nem uma virgula do que está escrito. Não tente corrigir o correto.

No, clearly not, and I hope if I become an elderly person spending my days posting my childhood memories on internet travel sites, no one would think of asking me, in my own language or that of the site, to change even a comma, either.

I believe you are talking about the replica of a caravel, which had been anchored for 25 years in Avenida 23 Maio, in São Paulo city. This boat had a floor area over 500 square meters and was rent for a restaurant. Nevertheless, this boat was demolished in 1995. You may take a look at a picture at: http://veja.abril.com.br/vejasp/especial_20_anos/p_060.shtml

The caravel was in the neighborhoods of Parque Ibirapuera, where there are some statues. You may see the pictures of these statues at http://www.sampaonline.com.br/postais/index.htm. The statue "Obelisco aos Constituintes de 1932" is one of them.

Hi Mary, it's been a long time since 1972, but I think I can help you. When I was a child and my family used to travel from São Paulo to Santos along Anchieta highway, we passed through Billings dam, where there was a floating restaurant called Netuno.
In the 60's the people who lived in São Paulo were habituated to going to Guarapiranga and Billings dams to spend the weekend, praticing nautical sports and having meal at the floating restaurants.
As Guarapiranga dam is situated in the south zone of São Paulo city, a possible way to get there is trhough the Santo Amaro avenue, where you can find the Borba Gato statue (take a look at the statue on the site www.santoamaroonline.com.br/reportagens/borbagato2001ago03.htm). Maybe it's the statue you have in mind. Therefore, several years ago there was a floating restaurant in ibirapuera park, near from Monumento às Bandeiras statue (http://esculturasemsaopaulo.blogspot.com/2007/09/monumento-s-bandeiras-victor-brecheret.html). Bear in mind this restaurant no longer exists.
Hope I could help you.

Hi,

I’m not from Sao Paulo but I’ve lived here for at least half of my life and of course those places you mentioned couldn’t go unnoticed . I love Sao Paulo and it is full of different surprising attractions like these. You and your family were probably going to “Parque Ibirapuera” and the boat restaurant was located in 23 de Maio Avenue, one of the paths to this Park, in Sao Paulo city. The statue to which you‘ve referred is on the opposite side of the park, take a look in this site to make recognition: http://olhares.aeiou.pt/monumento_aos_bandeirantes_um_pouco_de_historia/foto798739.html
Only one place you’ve mentioned that doesn’t exist anymore is the boat restaurant. However there is another place that is worth a visit is the floating restaurant “Netuno XIX” it is in Estrada Velha do Mar, Km 35,5 , fone number 4354-9940 and 4354-9238 http://www.riachogrande.net/novo2008/flutuante.htm . As you can see in the photos the place is simple . Although this simplicity if you’re into Brazilian food it is a must and there are very reasonable prices and good food, but bear in mind those places don’t work with credit or debit card. Good luck!

This boat was a caravel at May 23th Ave in Sao Paulo. Park that you are talking is Ibirapuera Park. You can find lots of excellent restaurants near these places specialty in Moema and Jardins. At this link you can find some of them. Enjoy!!!
