Angkor Wat websites to book hotels in Cambodia
Posted: Tue September 2, 2008 04:55 PM UTC
I'm planning a trip to Cambodia in early October. I've found a couple websites operated by local people in Cambodia that offer hotel reservations.

http://www.hotelscambodia.org/
http://www.angkorhotels.org/
http://www.phnompenh-hotels.org/

These websites ask for credit card numbers as a gaurantee for booking. Are these websites safe? If not, does anyone know any good website to book hotels in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap?

BTW, has anyone visted Cambodia in early Oct? It's still raining season and has the highest rainfall amount in the whole year. But I read a lot of articles saying that the Ankor temples are the prettiest during the raining season. Is that true? How's the road condition during that time?

Also, is it a good idea to take express boat from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh?

Thanks a lot!

I have used Hotel Club for most of my Asian bookings and they have been great.

http://www.hotelclub.net

Have also used Asiarooms with no problems.

It was raining in Sept when I was at AW and it was lovely - altho lots of mud on one day. Trees were bright green, ruins shone in the sunlight...very pretty and no dust!

I booked through wotif.com They have a wide selection of hotels in PP and SR but maybe not cater for the absolute budget accomm. It was easy to book and went like clockwork.
Roads are generally good around SR and the temples. Went in JUne both of my trips so I cannot comment on October weather.

What type/price of accommodation were you after. Budget, mid or high end.

I'm looking for mid to high end, with convenient location. I'm thinking of asking the hotel to arrange transportation and guide.

I stayed at two places that fit the bill!

Angkor Star and Somadevi.

Both are on Sivatha Boulevard which is pretty much the main drag in town for tourists. Walking distance to the markets, shops and night life.

My recommendatin would be Somadevi. On wotif.com the package included Accommodation, breakfast, both airport transfers and a huge meal (dinner or lunch for 2). The food was great and the rooms was really good. Very friendly staff too.

Angkor Wat websites to book hotels in Cambodia

Vanakam, I used AsiaRooms to book all my hotel accommodation throughout Asia, & they've always been very reliable.

October is the start of the so-called "high season" for tourism in Cambodia, so you may end up paying more for hotels & other stuff.

The weather is quite bearable; if it does rain, its usually in the afternoon, & lasts only around 45 minutes, after that its quite OK. I suggest you bring some disposable ponchos, so you don't get caught in the rain.

Its good to take photos of the temples after the rainfall, especially if there is a rainbow, then your pics look really good. Roads should be OK, its better to get a car so your mobility is not hampered by puddles, etc.

I suggest you DON"T take the boat from SR to PP; its an unusually long trip, about 8 ++ hours, & not very comfortable. Get a car & driver, I got 1 for US $ 100/-, for the 4.5 hr drive from SR to PP. Much more convenient, we left SR @ 0930 hrs & arrived at our hotel in PP @ 1330 hrs, just in time for a good lunch.

Hope this helps, e-mail me if you want a good & reliable English-speaking guide/driver with car.

Cheers.

Hi. I will go to Siam Reap in this mid of October as well. I had booked the Bou Savy Guesthouse which near to the temples and the pub street. This guesthouose does not require any deposit when you make the booking.

I met an expatriate in Siem Reap who guarantee the best deals for hotels and tours in Siem Reap You just send him an email (postmaster@travels-cambodia.com) with your few favorites hotels, then he will check the available rooms in your preferred hotels in Siem Reap and confirm you very quickly the availability and best offer of the moment. You can also have a look on his last minute offers: www.travels-cambodia.com/HOTEL0.htm. Then, we spent our last night in Siem Reap at a luxury hotel for less than 100$.
