We are thinking of buying a 5th wheel or RV in the USA, touring for a year and then selling it before returning to the UK. Has anyone experience of this and could give us general advice? Are there problems with insurance when you haven't got a permanent address in the USA?

RV units are now not so popular because of Gas prices. I am sure you can get one at a good price, but when it comes time to sell it you might not be able to get a fraction of your costs back. It will not be easy to sell. And registration and insurance might be a problem. I am sure you can get both, but the question would be how long will it take, and where do use as a home address.

Renting a camper will be a better option for you. Check out this site--
http://d1163986.i88.quadrahosting.com.au/index.asp It allows you to pick up and drop off in different states. Google US RV rentals and you should get more sites. Good luck and have a wonderful and safe travel.

There are companies that will "rent" you an interim address. I know from my research on an RV forum that a lot of Americans who live in their RV's prefer a South Dakota address, because of the state's lower insurance costs.
This forum may be able to better answer your questions: www.rvforum.net I hope that helps. - CG
