Go out when it's not raining; walk the city (canals for 4 hour) or take a canal boat tour first to get your first impressium.

What do you want to do?
Shopping: Nieuwendijkdijk, Kalverstraat, Nine Little Streets and the street markets (Waterlooplein and Albert Cuyp).

Museums: Van Gogh; Rijksmuseum; Anne Frank House and 30+ other museums.

Architecture: Canal house, houseboats and the new developments at the former East harbour islands.

Nightlife: Leideseplein area.

Typical Amsterdam: Jordaan area.

Best short impression is taking a hop-on hop-off canalboat, such as there are the Museumboat and the Canalbus. These makes it possible to combine a visit to certain interesting places (a museum choosen to your wishes and interests or the flowermarket, shoppingstreets etc.) and the traditional boat tour that gives the mayor impression of what Amsterdam is looking like.
Wish you anyway a wonderful stay in Amsterdam and if you have any more questions, just mail me.
