Border crossing with Slovenia on smaller roads
Posted: Sat August 30, 2008 09:40 PM UTC
I have a detailed map of Istra (1/110,000) that shows a custom office on the border between Slovenia and Croatia on the main roads. They do not show any on small roads. Does that mean that these road are not open for border crossing ? (or may be only for locals?) I am especially interested in the road from Motovun, Livade, Sv Lucija (Croatia) to Gradin, Trebeše, Gracišce (Slovenia). Sorry, I cannot get properly the C with diacritic for Gracišce!

Slovenia is an EU Member State and Croatia is not. You should therefore only be able to cross the border at INTERNATIONAL border crossing points, like this one: http://www.ukom.gov.si/eng/slovenia/publications/slovenia-news/2268/2273/
Furthermore, Slovenia joined Schengen this year, if it is possible for non-locals to enter the EU at any of these crossing points, without border formalities, please do let me know, as this would be in violation of both the Schengen Treaty with regard to movements of persons and the EU Accession Treaty with regard to movements of goods (customs)..

Thanks, with the key words "International Border Crossing" and "Slovenia", I got the map of the various border crossings around Slovenia with their capabilities. As I expected, the "Brezovica pri Gradinu" (it is how it is named) border crossing is for local traffic only. I won't check and will use the Socerga International Border Crossing.
