Edinburgh Accomodation in Edinburgh

Do you know nice accomodation in Edingburgh? Bed and breakfast, small cosy family hotel? Or?

We take 2 nights in Edinburgh and 1 on our way back, rent a car and then find accomodation on our way to taste whisky

My question about accomodation were originally in Scotland Forum where people advice me to post it in Edinburgh Forum

need suggestions for accomodation in Edinburgh? Come on - I am sure somebody must know? Any citizien of Edinburgh on Virual Torist?

In tripadvisor these B&B are no 1 and 2 in popularity

http://www.geraldsplace.com/

http://www.elmview.co.uk/

Yes, better to get closer to city center - we are 4 "ols people" (in the 50")

and even if we are friends we don“t want to share rooms or apartment - yes old people

Surprised that you haven't received the email but I have cut and pasted it for you here:

Further to your posting in the Whisky Tour in October,
you might find the following site helpful.

http://www.edinburghcastle.biz/bed_and_breakfast.html

When you access this site, click on "royal mile bed and breakfast, edinburgh"
about half way down on the right-hand side. This is in an extremely good
location, just off the Royal Mile and central to everything touristy. I have no
idea what the cost is but if it costs more than other b&bs, it's because of the
location and you wouldn't use time getting from A to B and back again. There
would be absolutely nowhere for you to park a car, not at any price!

The two B&Bs you mentioned in your post are, as I said, not as convenient as
they make out. The geraldsplace one would involve negotiating two hills, in
either direction, and the one up to the Castle is steep! The Elmview place is
even less convenient and also involves a steep hill and I don't think the area
is particularly nice - not unsafe just not particularly nice and rather
studenty.

I'll keep thinking and ask some friends but in all honesty, if you can book at
the Royal Mile, then do.

But, but - "Bathroom with Shower (shared facilities)"

Not good for old people - 2 pint of beer - 5 times visit bathroom during the night. Prefer private but let see - maybe it is possible to get private bathroom

This B&B, to give you an idea of scale, is about 2km from the Castle and is rather off the track for most things touristy. You would have to walk down a hill, then cross Princes Street and then either up a very steep hill to the Royal Mile and thence up the hill to the Castle, or else across North Bridge and then up another hill to the Castle. I just mention the Castle because I assume that you would either start at the Castle and walk down the Royal Mile to Holyrood House, or vice versa. In any case, I don't think this B&B is partiuclarly convenient. All the B&Bs located in the New Town would require a similar effort. It's not that far but "age" seems to creep into your postings quite a lot, so I assume effort is a factor. You could always take taxis or the local transportation but the latter doesn't really go into the Old Town but it would take you part way. The Witchery has rooms - you could investigate that. The Travelodge on St Mary Street is very convenient but I don't think it would fit your criteria. There's also the Crowne Plaza, the Balmoral Hotel and sundry others but I make the same comment.

Thanks for all information. My wife and friends like to walk (not me) but only two days in Edinburgh so it is better to stay in citycenter close to attraction - we love culture and arts

Have not heard from Royal Mile - I will check the names you gave me. Thanks a lof for yr effort to give us a pleasant stay in Edinburgh. By the way - do you live in Edinburgh? You know so much about the city

Hope it all works out okay - just be prepared for a fair trek (and uphill) to reach the tourist sites. One last thing, you will not need a car in Edinburgh so you should arrange to pick it up and drop it off as you leave/return to the city. Probably the airport is the most convenient place to pick up/drop off. irport is easily reached by shuttle bus from Waverly Station.

Thank you Hawkhead for all the fine informations. I am sure I can manage to walk My wife always tells me to loose weight. Thanks for information about rent a car. We take two days in Edinburgh, rent a car and go for the Whisky Route and then take 1 night in Edinburgh before go back to Denmark. 7 days trip and maybe a bit too short. About rent a car we will listen to yr good advices

Maybe I can help you if you one day plan to go to Aarhus (Billund). Aarhus is a nice quite town even it is the second largest city in Denmark. Close to beautiful nature and close to beach and forest

Just let me know and I will be pleased to help

Trip to Edinburgh postpone - Ryan Air cancelled our flight - bad luck, but found tickets for Lisbon - no whisky but lots of Port. Route Billund-Edinburg will first start 5.11 - we go for a winter journey and will then use your suggestions. Claus moves to Lisbon Forum
