| Amsterdam | Pls Pls Help - Hotel Stay & What is the Amsterdam travel pass! Posted: Tue August 26, 2008 12:11 PM UTC
Hi Everyone,
I need some help on the following: 1)I would be coming for the IBC Exhibition in amsterdam on the 16th & 17th. Because of the exhibition all the hotels around the RAI Convention Centre seem to be fully booked. Can anyone suggest any hotel that maybe a little away from the city centre but will be convenient to stay in and is well connected by public transport for traveling to RAI and the city centre. My budget is around 120-170 Euro max. These are few hotels that are available for my dates and in my budget, can someone suggest which one of these might work out as the best option: a) Hotel Falcon Plaza Centre Valkenburgerstraat 72-74, 1011 LZ Amsterdam b)Omega Hotel Amsterdam Jacob Obrechtstraat 33, 1071 KG Amsterdam c)Amstelpark Hotel and Sports Centre Koenenkade 8, 1081 KH Amsterdam d)Blue Square Hotel Slotermeerlaan 80, 1064 HD Amsterdam e)Tulip Inn Amsterdam City West Reimerswaalstraat 5, 1069 AE Amsterdam (Show map f)Avenue Hotel Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 33, 1012 RD Amsterdam g)Hotel De Paris Marnixstraat 372-374, 1016 XX Amsterdam 2)Also With the Exhibition pass I also am getting a free "Amsterdam Travel Pass" as per the link below: http://www.ibc.org/cgi-bin/displaypage.cgi?pageref=1104 Pls can anyone tell me what kind of travel does this pass entitle me for. Does it cover all means of Public transport such as train/bus/trams etc anywhere in amsterdam? Thanks a lot! |

Don't worry too much about your hotel location. The RAI is only a short tram ride away from Central Amsterdam, plus there is also a train stop right there if that works out to be more convenient. We stayed at one of the hotels close to the RAI, and I'm sorry they're all sold out. It was a convenient spot, even for getting into town to do eating or walking around.

I agree with zuriga; tram #4 gets you right to downtown Amsterdam within 15 minutes, so there's no real need to stay at an hotel close to the RAI.
Nontheless you could try the nearby http://www.hotelv.nl/hotel_amsterdam/home/ at the Victorieplein. I tried to find the "Amsterdam Travel Pass" at http://www.ibc.org/cgi-bin/displaypage.cgi?pageref=1104, but could not find it at that page. I guess it's a pass for free travel with the Amsterdam Public Transport (tram, bus, metro). It probably won't cover for trainrides, but if you have more info I can have a look. Have a look at: http://www.amsterdamtourist.nl/en/visiting/placest and see if that's the card they are offering. BTW check our general Schiphol and Amsterdam pages: http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/Europe/Nether http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/Europe/Nether PJ

For the public transport question, I would just contact the organization of the IBC: registration@ibc.org

| Amsterdam | Blue Square Hotel or Mercure Amsterdam Hotel - Anyone! Posted: Tue August 26, 2008 05:42 PM UTC
Hey Thanks everyone fo your replies!
I have shortlisted the following Hotels: Blue Square Hotel @ 118 Euro per night Vs Mercure Amsterdam Airport@ 135 Euro per night I was thinking of going for the mercure hotel since it is a 4 Star but just wondering if it might work out more expensive to travel to the centre from here in comparison to the other hotel. Any suggestions?

P.J. is the real Amsterdam expert, but it looks to me as if the Blue hotel is quite a distance from the RAI. I don't know what the transportation would be like. At least from the airport, you can take a direct train. I'm sure you could find something more appealing than either of those two, but I know the planning gets tiresome. There are some very nice places near the Rijksmuseum area.. not too expensive either.

The Avenue hotel is the one with the least public transportation hassle.
BTW From the Schiphol Airport you can take a train to Amsterdam Centraal and a tram from there if you are light packed. Otherwise look at the hotel shuttle minivan option. PJ
