| Canada | Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa Posted: Tue August 26, 2008 10:13 AM UTC
Hello all, I´m planning a trip to Canada next October, it is my first trip to Canada and I will be travelling with my family. I plan to see Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and see Niagara fall, maybe Algonquin Provincial Park. Would you recommend rent a car with a child seat or better take the train?
What is the best place/park in and around Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa to see the changing colours? Any suggestion regarding accomodation where you can enjoy the view of the skyline of these cities is very much appreciated! Many thanks, Tom Tuscany, Italy tuscanyscape.com |

Last year we made a loop drive: Toronto, Huntsville (Muskoka), Algonquin Park, Pembroke, Ottawa Valley, Gatineau Park (Ottawa), Kingston, back to Toronto. We made our trip from October 2 till October 10.
The colours were really fantastic, although there was already some leaf fall, especially in Algonquin Park. See for more info and interesting websites: http://members.virtualtourist.com/vt/tfr/1/533/1/1b42c8/ happy travels Jaap

Welcome to Canada!
Rental car gives you the freedom to enjoy the fall colours along Ontario and Quebec in October. Further, no train serves to Algonquin Park. Stay at any falls-view hotel in Niagara and any downtown hotels in other 3 cities. You may get very decent price for those hotels on priceline or hotwire if you've fixed your itinerary.

thanks, how many days and where did you stay in Algonquin park? Can you easily drive inside the park? I googled and it seem very big park and I have no idea what the best spot is. How far is the entrance from Toronto?
Thanks Tom

There is 'just' one road (for cars) through Algonquin Park (Highway 60 - 56 km's long).
We stayed in the town of Huntsville (which is a couple of hours north of Toronto) in Muskoka, a very nice and colorful area. We were almost a day in the park, doing some walks and visiting the sights along this 'park corridor'. The next day we stayed in another town, named Pembroke along the Ottawa River. See for more info my Ontario page: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/7c27b/533/ The website of Algonquin Park offers also more information: http://www.algonquinpark.on.ca/index.html
