Zanzibar Island Low tide Zanzibar
Posted: Mon August 25, 2008 09:07 PM UTC
Hello,

We visited Zanzibar 15 years ago and are planning to go there next Feb. Due to extensive low tide it was not possible to swim between 10 am and 15 pm. This was on the south east cost. Can anybody advise if low tide is a problem also on the north east cost. If so, what do you recommend?

The tides change their times, but yes, you will have low tide there as well. Not much you can do. You can hire a boat and go farther out, even diving.

Have a great time,

All the best,

DAO

Low tide is more swimmable in the northern parts (Nungwi) than in the South East. If you book in the South East, make sure you book a hotel with a pool.
I prefer Nungwi to any other area on Zanzibar. The tides is a problem all over the island, but not as bad in the north.

Hallo,
I don't know if I am in time to give you suggestions, anyway, I've been there and the lowtide is less present in the northern coast of the Island (even if I've found the phenomenon realllly amazing and natural, on the east cost).
I've spent my time in myblue hotel, placed in Nungwi. Really stylish and charming. Nice and, I've been told, new hotel, (finished in december, I think)facing the beautiful sea, with an elegantly minimal african style. Beautiful and confortable rooms. What else, I'd like to be there again!! ; )
The hotel is quiet, even if is in the part of the Island with more international Tourism. If you walk along the beach, You'll easily find people taking tann, beach sellers (paintings and other typical handcrafts); so a pearl of tranquillity, in the Island beach-life crowed.
Hugs, Juazanzi
