| Boston | Toddler-Friendly? Posted: Sun August 24, 2008 08:22 AM UTC
Hi all,
I'm travelling to Cape Cod with my three and a half year old, and I don't know if I should skip Boston until he's older. The traffic, the crowds, trains, etc. I don't know if it's practical to be there with a child that age. Any suggestions? |

Children that age don't need trips. They will be just as happy in a playground near the house. Fancy hotels, expensive amusement parks, restaurants - they will not remember a thing (believe me, I have 4 grown children and I know what I'm talking about). Only go if the trip is for YOU, to keep you from going stir crazy at home. If it's for the "education" of the kid - don't waste your time.

I agree with the previous poster. On the other side of the coin, your toddler will also not care that he or she is in a city. They don't mind the traffic, crowds, trains, etc., unless YOU do. In fact, they'll probably find all that stuff quite stimulating. So go if YOU want to go - or not.

Just keep in mind that if you're using a stroller the subway escalators as often as not aren't working, and at peak hours public transport is very crowded.

The population of Boston is more than half a million people, most of which would have been three and a half at one point in their lives, they survived, so shall you and your young un.
Relax and enjoy the trip.

The Boston Children's Museum is a great place to bring your son! Not sure when you will be coming but kids love going on the swan boats in the Public Garden.
I agree with the above posts. Your son won't have a good time if you're not having a good time. Go where you want to go. Kids adapt and adjust much better than adults do.

There's some really great stuff in Boston that a 3.5 year old would love, like the museum of science, the aquarium, the children's museum as well as the public gardens with the swan boats. there's loads of parks as well.
