Guyana Getting from airport to bus station
Posted: Sat August 23, 2008 02:16 PM UTC
I was told by someone who lives there that it would be too dangerous for me to take public transportation from the Georgetown airport to the bus station (an hour away.) The taxi might cost me up to $50 each way, though. What has anyone else done to make this connection? Do you take the taxi or the bus? (I am a middle-aged white woman with a big backpack.) Thanks.

Use a private cab company, they are very responsable and you can make a claim if something happens. One of those cab companies is called Premium (http://www.taipremium.com.ar) you can reserve your cab with anticipation or call the when you are at the airport (they will speak SOMETHING like englis ;) 5238-0000

If you need any other help let me know.

Thank you, Juan. Is that how you get from the Georgetown airport to the bus station, by cab? Or do you feel that it is safe to take public transportation? (I am a middle-aged white lady with a big backpack. I'm not a scaredy cat, but I don't want to be stranded in Georgetown if all my stuff gets stolen my first day!) Thanks!

I actually just wrote a tip on this myself. It was only after I posted it that I saw this forum thread on the Georgetown page.

Taxi from the airport to the city is $20. Pay no more.
Communal van #42 is an option. If you do not have too many bags, this is a viable alternative. I did this just two weeks ago and had no issues.
