| Quebec | NYC to Quebec City Posted: Fri August 22, 2008 11:24 AM UTC
Hello all,
I need to travel from New York to Quebec City. Please does anyone know if it is possible to do this by bus or train? How long does this take? Any Schedule for it? Thank you. |

It is better(and faster) to do both bus then train. Take a bus to Montreal, then take a train to Quebec City. Between the bus and train station in Montreal you will have to take a taxi or hop on the metro(subway). When you take the train across the border it usually gets behind schedule. Quebec City is about 3 to 3 and half hours from Montreal by train. Our train system is called VIA in Canada. I hope this all makes sense.

I disagree that train is not good. If you take the "Adirondack" from Penn Station it takes you up thru New York State to Montreal train station. Then you do not have to take a bus to get to train Station. I live 500 Ft from the Border and 3 miles from the Rouses Point, New York Train Station. Of course it is always possible the train is held up by Passport control, But we rarely see them late by more than 45 minutes for that. BUT, the Bus can also be held up.
It really is your choice and it might be worthwhile to see which one is less expensive, but do not count the train as a bad choice. on the train it is a 11 hour trip and Adult fare is $62. On Greyhound Bus it is 9 hour trip and cost is $84. Take your choice. BTW the scenery is better on the train.

If you live 3 hours from the boarder it's a different story!! If you live in NYC it's easier to do what I would do. I have taken both more than once, I have never been held up at the border longer than a half an hour on the bus. On the train I was held up both times for more than 2 hours!!

Perhaps he does not worry about being held up for a few more minutes. If cost is a factor, the train is cheaper. As I said, he needs to make his choice based on his own needs. If he is in no hurry, the train is cheaper. If he is in a real hurry, take a plane into Dorval. The bus is not that much better than the train.

Thank you both. Both your advices are helpful. I am assuming the adriondeck isa train from NYC to Montreal?
One more thing, when you both mention border, are we talking about border between US and Canada here or between Montreal and Quebec (I know it's not logicial to havea a border within a country but trust me, i have seen illogical miracles in many countries :)). Again, thank you both and i will take all your advice into consideration. Much appreciated.... info on hostels and pensions in QC appreciated aussi.. ciao
