Paris 1st time in Paris, need your inputs...
Posted: Thu August 21, 2008 11:21 PM UTC
hello, we will be on a holiday in Paris for 5 days/4 nights and i have a lot of questions in mind.
1.we will be coming from Germany and plans to take the ICE train from Frankfurt to Paris. Does anyone know as to what particular train station & what zone in Paris are we departing?

2. For sightseeing, we can allot the 1st 3 days and just see the highlights of paris..We haven't booked for a hotel yet as we still want to get some suggestions re the best location(or zone?) we should stay in like the one closest to the shops, restos, or best sights.

3.we have our toddler in tow by the way so going to disneyland for 2 days is an option. would it be wise & affordable to stay in one of the themed hotels there or just stay in a hotel near the place?

thnx in advance!

1) If you take the direct ICE train (e.g. 09:01), you will be arriving at Gare de l'Est (if TGV/Thalys, at Gare du Nord). As for what zone you will be departing from, if it is the same as the one you arrive at, this is RATP zone 1, click on "zone map" on the left of this http://www.ratp.info/informer/anglais/
2) There are shops, restaurants and sights all over Paris, there is no one single location for these. However, just about everything you might want to visit is in Zone 1 apart from Disneyland and Versailles. If you do want to visit Disneyland you might consider staying somewhere near Châtelet-Les Halles for the RER, but as you can transfer onto this by metro from anywhere, it doesn't really matter. I like to stay near the Madeleine, myself (and Gare St. Lazare), but sometimes near St. Michel.
3) You don't actually have to do either, it takes about 30 minutes on the RER A4 to Marne-la-Vallée - you can see where this runs from on the "zone map" referred to above. The Disneyland hotels are overpriced in my opinion, but of course they are convenient.

tnx so much! yes, we will catch the ICE train at around 9am from frankfurt.
maybe the best thing for us is to get a hotel within the area close to the train station.

can you suggest a good itinerary for our 3 day stay for sightseeing?

Hallo,

this is just an idea of itinerary....Buy a good city guide and a good map! Have fun in Paris

1st day

Morning: Place de la Concorde, Champs Elysees, Arc de Triomphe, Trocadero, Tour Eiffel
Afternoon: Opera, Galeries de la Fayette (shopping centre)
Night around Place de la Republique (lots of restaurants and clubs)

2nd day

Morning: Notre Dame, Ile St.Louis and Ile de la Cité, Quartier Marais (for lunch and shopping at small and trendy shops) and place des Vosges
Afternoon:Quartier Latin: Boulevard and Church of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Boulevard de Saint-Michel , Pantheon, Rue Mouffetard (for lunch and/or dinner)
Night: Quartier Latin and/or Tour Eiffel by night or boat tour along the river

3rd day
Morning: Louvre (a quick tour of the museum would take you half a day)
Afternoon: Montmartre area, Sacre Coeur church, Pigalle (also by night, for ex. you can go to a show at Moulin Rouge)

Kind regards
Francesca

You NEED a hotel close to the Disneyland park. At least when you'd like to stay in the park at night. Depending from the time of the year you plan to go, the park might be open until 11 pm. I'd not take the RER back to Paris after down. I have done the trip many times and I know what is going on there. With a little child, you might feel unsafe. During day time, there are lots of tourists on this RER line, so there will be no problem.

First take the metro to Chatelet-les-Halles. From there, it's about 30 minutes by RER towards Marne-la-Vallée/Chessy (red A4 line East).
Disneyland is the terminus of this line. You can get free metro maps in the stations. However, they renewed the lay out of these maps a while ago, and now they are inconvenient. Here is a link to the older map: http://www.ratp.info/orienter/f_plan.php?loc=reseaux&nompdf=metro&fm=gif
The price from the RER ticket depends from the zones you need and you'll need 5 zones.
The RER train arrives just at the gate of the Disneyland park. It's very easy.
I think a there and back RER ticket will cost you 12,90 euros/person. The same price as a "mobilis" ticket for one day, which also includes the price of the metro transfer. The kids pay a cheaper ticket.
