parking near Toronto Airport - Do Not use SKYPARX
Posted: Mon August 18, 2008 03:37 PM UTC
Guys,

Just wanted to share my bad experience with SKYPARX in Toronto. I left my car with this parking lot for a week. Upon return, my front bumper was damaged. They will not be responsible even if they damage your car. I have not heard such a thing but seriously, that is what the ticket says. The parking lot requires you to leave the key to them so they can park cars closely to maximise profit. I wonder if anyone else have the same problem????

Usually all parking lot ticket indicates they are not responsible for damage or stolen items, that is if you park the car yourself. In your case, they have your car key, seems like the parking lot should be responsible for the damage. My experience with valet parking is the parking attendant usually walked around your car to inspect existing damage and write down on the ticket before they get into your car. I would file a complain.

Can't speak for Ontario law, but in UK just because they have a disclaimer like that doesn't mean it can be enforced.

Consumer protection laws can override it. They may still put in unenforcable disclaimers to frighten off consumers.

Try to get advice before you give up!

I have spoken to their management but they said they weren't responsible. Plus they did not inspect my car prior to check in. I know any parking lot where you leave the key to the parking attendance would normally be responsible. Just beware and stay away from SKYPARX.

This is not appropriate as a forum topic. You should make this into a tip (or several tips).

Having said that:

Just because it says that they aren't responsible doesn't mean that they can not be held responsible and made to pay. It depends on the amount of damage and how strongly you feel about it as to whether you want to pursue it. It is likely to cost you more to go after them than it would cost to get the car fixed. OTOH, they will keep doing this to other people if you don't.

I was hit by an uninsured driver and my car was totaled. Normally the other car's insurance would have paid, but he didn't have any. My insurance company said they didn't have to pay more than the 'book value' of the car which was very low ($500.00) because it was an old car. I had to sue them to get them to give me enough money to get another car as a replacement. The lawyer got more out of it than I did, and of course then they raised their rates.

So think about it.

To tell you the honest truth, if you are needing to park at Pearson Airport, parking right at the airport lots is the best way to go in my experience.

The price is not all that different, no crazy shuttle bus rides, just park and off you go.
