Getting there by Nesher Sherut (shared van): http://www.frommers.com/destinations/jerusalem/0088023783.html
NIS 50 (New Israeli Shekel) per person we gave by Nesher Sherut from Ben Gurion Airport to Old City in Jerusalem in September 2007.

You don't need to book in advance. Nesher taxi vans are right outside the door of the terminal and leave as they fill up. This is the link to my tip on the subject - http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/6b44c/1a126b/9/

Gila is correct. There is no problem. As you leave the Arrivals hall turn right and step outside. You will see lines and lines of taxis and vans. Just say Nesher Jerusalem, and they will point you in the right direction. Look for the sign Nesher and large 10 - 12 person vans. No need to reserve in advance, they are there 24/7.

Re: Taxi service from airport to Jerusalem Posted: Mon August 18, 2008 05:27 AM UTC
I have no idea who the company on the website is. Nesher, a shared taxi is less expensive. If you want a private taxi--there is a que that moves quickly and efficiently. Looking at their posted rates returning to the airport--the price from Netanya to the airport is above the legal private taxi rates. Now, maybe there is a loophole this company is using but....

Just realized a limo will cost your $200!! that is around 700NIS. As I said above, I do not know the published rate from the airport to Jerusalem--but Jerusalem to Netanya ( much further) is only 360!!! So the 700 is way out of line. ( I guess they include loads of wait time for the guy to stand there with your name on a sign!!)

Re: Taxi service from airport to Jerusalem Posted: Mon August 18, 2008 06:06 AM UTC
The airport authorities licensed several taxi operators (Nesher for Jerusalem, Amal for Haifa and Hadar for the rest of the country). These operators must charge a fixed fee which is regulated. You can still use any other taxi operator to get into the airport, but then there is no regulation of the fee. They can charge you as much as they want. In some cases you can get a better deal, most of the times you get a worse deal. Of course, if you rent a service which is different than a regular taxi, like a limo or a vanf or 8 people, the price would be different. So, unless you have the time and skills to shop around for a btter deal, the safe thing to do would be to use the official operators. You can see the list at the airport web site: http://www.iaa.gov.il/Rashat/en-US/Airports/BenGurion/InformationforTravelers/TransportationToandFromtheAirport/Taxis

Re: Taxi service from airport to Jerusalem Posted: Mon August 18, 2008 06:16 AM UTC
Saw the previous posting and had to check this.
On this site for Jerusalem, for 3 people in a private standard car, works out to over 100 NIS per person during the day and more at night.
The Nesher sherut which is a group taxi, that also delivers door-to-door costs 1/2 of that...and the rates are the same day and night so it is less than 50% per person than that at night.
The standard private taxis at the airport have fixed rates. Have never used them so I can't quote rates on that.
Your choice.

Got a lot of numbers and strange marks in that last message...
If you are asking how long the trip takes then direct it is a 20 - 30 minute drive to Jerusalem.
In the group taxi it depends on the route the driver takes, which he plans out according to where the passengers want to be dropped off. It can take anywhere from 40 minutes - if you are first off, to 60 or 70 minutes if you are last off.
Of course this depends largely on traffic. Late at night/early morning I have gotten home in less than 1/2 an hour. During rush hours it can be a lot longer.

Yeah i think that last message of mine had something to do with the turkish keyboard i was using!
what i was trying to ask was...
(i) how long does it take from Ben Gurion airport to the old city in Jerusalem?, and
(ii) how much should i expect to pay for the ride (using the official taxi servıce)?
thanks,
Luke

Re: Taxi service from airport to Jerusalem Posted: Thu August 21, 2008 06:23 PM UTC
Again, it depends on traffic but from the airport to the center of Jerusalem is about 30 minutes all being equal. The Old City is a 5 minute walk from the center of town to the Jaffa Gate. Do you know which Gate you want? If the taxi has to drive halfway around the walls it will take longer and cost a bit more.
When are you coming? The whole of the center of Jerusalem is torn up right now where they are laying rail lines for a light rail (tram) installation. Traffic is really bottled up and slow moving...

Re: Taxi service from airport to Jerusalem Posted: Thu August 21, 2008 10:40 PM UTC
Nesher taxis take a flat rate of 50 shekels for the ride from Ben Gurion airport to your destination in Jerusalem. You don't pay more for being dropped off at the Old City. Half an hour??? No way, Jose. Maybe if you arrive at 3 in the morning... Figure on an hour at least, if not more. Nesher is a shared taxi, which may mean driving around different neighborhoods to drop off other passengers before you get to where you want to go. The tip on my Lod page explains it all.

Yes, that is exactly what I said, if you read it...
