Tanzania Serengeti
Posted: Sat August 16, 2008 09:46 PM UTC
Hi
I'm planning to go to Serengeti in June 2009 and am trying to find out as much as i can now. I've read some recommendations for Amani Afrika and Tropical Trails...has anyone actually used these companies and if so, could you please relate your experience?

Another concern is the condition of facilities at the public campsites. Any comments?

How about the hot-air balloon? Is it worth doing?

Any help would be much appreciated.Thank you.

Hi! A company you could consider is Aim4Africa www.aimforafrica.com I've not used these-yet, but its my friend and his wife who've set up the company-They're from Tanzania (Living in UK - my friend is a Surgical Consultant)and are passionate about their homeland, and employing local people to guide the trips etc. They'd welcome any questions about travels to this area.
Best Wishes,
Sue X

I am heading back to East Africa in October and touring with a company I have dealt with before in Nairobi whom I found very good. They are Hammerkop Safaris and they do quite a few personal tours. Look at their website www.hamerkopsafaris.com.
As to the the public facilities in the Serengeti. I was there last a few years ago in a campsite and there was a drop toilet, and a little way away some showers that the Cape Buffalo regarded as their own!! Having said that it was one of the best experiences we had,you go to the Serengeti for the excitement of waking up to the roar of the lions as we did,not to have 5 star luxury. Campsites are very basic but the view is unforgettable.
Friends did the ballooning there and also said it was amazing,so much so that we are booked in for it this time. It is not cheap, around $450 US or a little more so it will be our treat for this trip. Regina from Hammerkop can organise it all for you.
Have a ball and take LOTS of unforgettable photos.
