You have chosen the right forum for your first time......you won't find a friendlier or more helpful site than VT!

You will need an adaptor. You can buy them online if you want. Just google for them on www.google.co.uk (better than google.com, as it cuts down the results). Search for 'uk south africa adaptor'.

Otherwise go somewhere like Dixons and ask them. Supermarkets may not stock the right ones (they tend to just have the Europe and USA ones).

As Leics says you do need a specific South African power adaptor although some hotels do either provide them or have either European or UK sockets it is better to be safe than sorry. Note the ones sold as "univesal" adaptors will NOT work in SA.

Good luck and enjoy Kruger I trust you'll be putting your Nikon to good use. I plan to go there next year for the first time (which will be my 4th trip to the country).

John

I bought the world traveller pack from Apple and used it with my Mac in Kruger with no problems. (it comes with a variety of plugs for various countries.) We also used a universal adapter (one of those ones with weird toggle switches that make it right for whatever country you are). No worries. You are going to LOVE the area (and hopefully come to love this forum...the advice is incredible...specific and reliable!) Enjoy!

have a look here:
http://www.kropla.com/electric2.htm
You'll probably need two adaptors as the Type M is standard but most chargers etc is a European 2-pin or Type C which is normally not found in SA (except for some upmarket hotels) so you'll need an adaptor which fits the Type M but takes a 2-pin plug, they are available everywhere and not expensive (ca GBP 1)

Hi.

You can buy SA-compatible adaptors at several outlets at Heathrow (flight-side) such as Dixons Travel, Boots etc. You can also buy in SA and most good lodges will have adaptors you can use anyway.

Just check your lodge has plug points / doesn't run off a generator! Some of the more rustic ones don't have any mains electricity at all. But if you are staying in a more expensive / bigger one, you'll be fine.

Enjoy - you'll love it.
