Unusual things to do in Liverpool and transport Posted: Wed August 13, 2008 11:07 PM UTC
Hi!
I will spend some time in Liverpool, and don't want to be a 'tourist'. I have already searched the usual and touristy things to check out in the city, but would like to know about little hidden treasures, or Simply: what you guys- locals- would suggest to do, as something you think I should do. I know interests vary, but whatever you suggest, and I will pick what grabs my attention.
and what you reccommend for 'best' place to have a drink, or lunch/dinner, etc..
Also: for like 4 or 5 days in the city, what is the best deal for trasnport. and where to get this pass or tickets? are they for buses? what else is used there for transportation?
Thank you!
VT
p.s: we are recently married and we want to spend some nice (and romantic) time and unwind!

Not sure how this rates on the "romance" scale - pretty low I would guess - but as far as hidden treasures go you can't get much more hidden than the Williamson Tunnels - well worth a visit if you are that way inclined.
Or how about a cruise along the Manchester Ship Canal. Mersey Ferries run these on a fairly regular basis. Takes six hours from Liverpool Pier Head to Salford Quays where you can then explore the shopping outlet, Lowry Centre and/or Imperial War Museum North before being bused back to Liverpool.
Have fun whatever you end up doing.

I'm 50, so when I think of Liverpool, I think of the Cavern Club and the Beatles. From what I've read, Liverpool is an industrial city, and probably a dying one, nowadays. It sounds about as romantic as Newark! I like to avoid tourist traps myself, so let me know how you make out.

Take a train out to Southport or West Kirby - these are nice pleasant seaside towns ( there is a lot here on VT about them) - you could have a romantic walk along the promenades there.

Cool things to try: The Willamson Tunnels www.williamsontunnels.com
Romantic: a stroll along Crosby Beach looking at Anthony Gormely's "Another Place".
Transport: the buses, trains and ferry are grouped together under the banner of Merseytravel try their website www.merseytravel.co.uk .

Suggest you have a look at the Liverpool One development Footool, before you say Liverpool is a dying Industrial City. Also Liverpool has the biggest collection of neoclassical buildings and museums outside of London, including our own branch of the Tate.

hhmmmm I didn't know that, of course. I've been to England 3 times, but only once did I stray from London.
