Worth the trek out to Chamonix?

Hi,
I've been staying in Lyon for a little while and I'm getting restless to try out some new places. Before I head south I was reading about some amazing trips to Chamonix and around the gondolas and I was wondering if anyone could offer some perspective/travel tips? I don't have a car so I know it would be a bit of a trek... Worth it?

chamonix has a fantastic mountain backdrop and it's a very lively town.
i would say that it is certainly worth the trip.

Dfinitely worth it! The Mont Blanc is really spectacular and the glaciers are so close to the town you will feel you can almost touch them.

There is no place like Chamonix! Do it! Chamonix is the only town in the French Alps with so many gondolas and hike suggestions. No car needed. Most spectacular sceneries. Check the tips here on VT.
