hi all!My name is lara and I am from austria!!! last year I did cancel my travel to guate but this year I am going at november to guatemala at first antigua!!! can you recomend a good hostal or hotel for the first days??
and is the bussation near the center???
I am going for 3 weeks and I am looking forward to see a lot of intrestings places!!!

Hi Lara,

I stayed last year at the Hotel Antigua but it's pretty pricey. There are a few VT tips here that had some nice things to say about some of the more reasonably priced hotels. One I seriously considered was Hotel Casa Florencia:

It's on the north side of town and not too far from the bus station which BTW is not near the center but on the northwest corner of town. Still, near is a relative term and Antigua isn't really huge. I'd say that one could walk from the bus station to the Plaza Central in about 15 minutes.

As for all you're wanting to see, I think you could do all of that. Last year we did the following in 12 days: Panajachel, Chichi (day trip), Santiago Atitlan (day trip), Antigua, Tikal/Flores. That included two nights in Guate on either end of the trip.

I think I will stay in antigua for 3 days!!! did you travel to tikal by plane
from guatemala city or by bus ??? and how many days did you stay there?
or do you think its better tikal as first and then antigua andthe other places??

We flew to Tikal. But this required getting up at 4:00am so we could take a chartered bus from Antigua to the airport in Guatemala City and then fly to Flores. We went to Tikal the same day, spent the night in Santa Elena, and the next day went to Yaxha and flew back down to Guatemala City that night. Kinda crazy.

If I had to do it again, I'd fly to Flores the same day I got into Guatemala City, do the Peten region, come back down and then hit the rest of the places using a rental car or the bus system.

I've just got back from Guatemala. Hotel Posada Los Búcaros is a good place to stay in Antigua.

Hi there Lara, greetings from Deerfield Beach in Florida. You can take the overnight bus to Tikal and save yourself a ton of money go to www.adnautobusesdelnorte.com or Linea Dorada www.tikalmayanworld.com
There'll be plenty of shuttle vans outside the airport and they can always recommend you a good place to stay in antigua. Stay away from the chicken buses. I suggest you search the other forums thorntree.lonelyplanet and trip advisor for additional information. Good luck.
