transportation from airport to jerusalem

Can anyone advise if using train is a good option for travelling in israel (specific route is from airport to jerusalem).

Sorry no, not yet.

The best is to use the group taxi, Nesher sherut (pronounced sher-oot).

Full details on my Jerusalem page.

They will deliver you either to the Central Bus Station in Jerusalem or to the door of your hotel/residence. Price is reasonable (+/- US$11).

BTW - the train is a good option if you are travelling in the middle of the country or to parts of the north.

The train station in Jerusalem is in an out of the way spot. You have to take a bus from there to anywhere - either in Malha, or at the Jerusalem Zoo. There is a new station being built, but it is not ready yet.

On many of the trains during the day you have to change trains.

Anyway, if you like you can check the hour and day that you are travelling to see if the train would be convenient for you:

Likw written above, the train is not really an option for Jerusalem. Anyway, Jerusaelm is about 30 km away from the airport, so the shared taxi shouldn't take too long.

The train is a good option if you travel along the coast. Ashqelon, Ashdod, Tel-Aviv, Haifa, Nahariya.

One usually takes the train to Jerusalem for 1 of 2 reasons:
(1) For the scenic ride through the Jerusalem foothills.
(2) Your destination is in the area around the Jerusalem train station - which, as mentioned, is nowhere near the centre of town (southern edge of Jerusalem).

Also, the train ride from the airport takes about 2 hours (you have to go to Tel Aviv and switch trains), whereas a Nesher "sherut" van would take you between 45 and 75 minutes, depending on whether you were the first or last one to be let off.

Yes.

Also - As you leave the departure hall turn right.
Lines of taxis and sherut, drivers and touts yelling at you...just say "Yeru-sha-la-yim".

They will point you onwards...walk till you see the word Nesher and large 10 - 12 people vans in bright yellow.

The whole thing takes about 2 minutes.

I've always taken a sherut from BG to Jerusalem, unless someone is picking me up at the airport.
