Pile, Ploce, Stari Grad, Gruz or Lapad?

Hi everybody,

Me and my friend is visiting Dubrovnik at the beginnig of September. We have limited time and we're going to stay for 2 days in Dubrovnik. (1 and half actually). So we would like to stay somewhere closer to the city and beaches. Which place would you recommend us to stay?

Also are those beaches free for everyone? Or do we have to pay for entering?

I've sent several emails for apartment owners that I could find from the internet. But only a few of them replied back. Don't they use the internet?

We found the internet use highly developed and the person we dealt twith very prompt to reply. The apt. we rented on Lapad (see my Dubrovnik Accommodation Tip) is fully booked for the season but the Kreso Gudelj, the owner, was very helpful in finding my brother a last minute apartment.

We loved the Lapad peninsula but as you have only 2 days you might prefer to be in the thick of things - but beware the crowds when the cruise ships arrive! Good Luck.

Most of the owners advertise on internet, but maybe one night's stay was not interesting for some of them, this is just my opinion.

If you decide to stay in the old city, it's just so easy to find a place to stay.. Just go inside the old city and people will approach you and rent out rooms in their house. Crosscheck the location... thoough those offering rooms outside the old city, usually wait for people at the bus station or at the harbour. Last imte I was there we paid 50 euros for a double, right inside the walls. And the owner of the hosue was the nicest lady we've ever met.

I think we'll stay around Pile or Ploce. We're planning to try that way (using local people who are approaching you) in Hvar cause of higher rates on the island.
