Dubrovnik Beaches & hotels in Croatia
Posted: Sat August 9, 2008 05:27 PM UTC
Hey, im planning on taking my girlfriend away to croatia for a week. We're just wondering if the beaches are sandy there as we heard that the beaches in croatia are mostly stoney?

Also any hotels you recommend would be really appreciated!

If you're looking for sandy beaches choose another country!

Of course, there are great sandy beaches in Croatia, not so many, but who likes them, can always find one :
Island Rab-the biggest and most known is Rajska Plaža
Crikvenica, Selce,
On other islands you can also find sandy beaches.
Island Korčula; Pržina near Korčula town and in Lumbarda
Island Hvar:Mina near the hotel Hvar(ex Mina) in Jelsa etc
Here is a useful link:

We have even an island almost whole composed of sand: island Susak
Csilla, it is not good to give misleading answers, where have you been in Croatia at all?

As a Croatian traveler - I agree with posting no 1. Croatia is a beautiful country and one of my favorite ever places is Dubrovnik but if you spend time seeking out sandy beaches you spend too much time on the road and not enough exploring this great place. The most pleasant beaches that I found close to Dubrovnik were on the island of Lopud which is well worth a visit. My advice - get some beach shoes and enjoy the crystal clear Adriatic.

Hi we have visited various places in Croatia (as yet not the islands) but we are not beach people. One place we did stay which we loved was Biograd which had had beaches and the other half harbour. To be honest we did not visit the beaches but according to the website for Biograd they say they have both sandy and stoney beaches maybe worth a look because it is a lovely place.

I agree with both #1 and #2! :)
The Croatian mainland is virtually devoid of sandy beaches. I was there twice and had a hard time finding anything decent - on the mainland. However, I have never been to the islands - and this is where #2 says the sandy beaches exist. I, too, have heard that there are islands with sandy beaches, but have no first-hand knowledge.
