I live in Southern California which is close to Lake Tahoe. There is normaly snow by that time of year and the sking sould be good. There are years that the rain/snow comes late, but it is not the norm. Just keep an eye on the weather.

That might be a little early for a good deep base. At north shore Borrel Ridge makes their own snow if it is cold enough at night. Heavenly Valley is usually the first to open.

I would check the snow reports a few days/weeks before you go.

If we have a wet winter, then snow will fall in early November for skiing. I 2004, snow was in by late October and skiing was available. My brother and his wife live in Incline Village and we always bring chains for the car when visiting in late Oct.,early Nov.. So, as we say "Pray for Snow". Alpine Meadows seems to get snow first. Most Resorts open for the season during Thanksgiving Week.

I agree. Having grown up in Incline, I can testify that resorts can and sometimes do open before Halloween. Alpine usually has the first opening and last closing dates. Squaw too has one of the longer seasons. Unfortunately from South Lake Tahoe, these two are among the farthest away.
