| Nepal | The nearest to watch Everest sunrise Posted: Thu August 7, 2008 05:10 PM UTC
We have a plan to go to Nepal on November. Two of us. But the problem is we are not too fit to join for trekking.
Our plan is for 5 days 4 nights. For sure we will put up in Kathmandu. Which area to go next to watch mount Everest sunrise n sunset view. And how to go there (by transportation)? As nearer as possible. Please advice. |

Hello There,
Nice plan you have made for november because weather will be fantastic from morning until evening and the best place to see the panaromic view of Everest as well as other himalayan rages could be Nagarkot or Dhulikhel which is 35/33 km east from kathmandu city and those places are sorounding by villages and green hills. Similarly, seeing the sunrise and sun set I would like to recommend you Nagarkot. And there few transportations are quite available like as Local Mini Bus but takes pretty long time because they use to stop many places to get the people but still you may hire car and head up there which is one and half hour drive. Infact, most of the people come to nepal for trek purpose but your schedule says you have very limit time frame that's why this above ideas can be good suggestions or you may do one hour mountain flight(small aircraft of 16 people capacity)to see the everest and other himalays and there you will be couple of Km distance from Mt.Everest and flight goes above 15000ft.on the sky and will see such a wonderful scenery of all himalayan ranges. Please feel free to write here or send your pm for more...cheers

Personally I would Ignore the above poster an Obvious Spamvertiser !!
Although Nagarkot is a beautiful ridge-top village you need a pair of binoculars to see Everest, and even then you can only see it in near perfect weather conditions and it is only a dot on the far horizon. Far the Best Idea is to take the Buddha Air Mountain flight, Pics and details on the transportation tips section of my Nepal page. Other than that you would have to fly to Lukla, then trek for 2 days to Namche Bazaar, You can get a good view of Everest from just above. You would need a total of at least 4 days and preferably 5 to do this short but still reasonably demanding trek, you will be at an altitude of over 10,000 feet !! I hope that helps a little but If you need more info then feel free to drop me a line Happy Travels Rob

Agree...Dhulikhel has a great view from the mountain range....but not everest.
I did the plane trip also and I think that it was waste of money once you donīt get that close.

Thanks for the infos. Really Appreciate it. Basically, i guess, 6 or 7 days would be better than 5 days if want to be in Kathmandu, Pokhara and Patan plus the Everest view in Namche Bazaar. Need to set a new schedule eh...
