I read an article about it just a few weeks ago. It says it was preserved just like how it was and was highly recommended as a place to see. Part of the building is still a working hospice.

I just can't remember which publication it was that had the article.

It is one of the most visited attractions close to Paris and questions about how to get there crop up here all the time. If using public transport you will need to take the train from Gare St Lazre to vernong, then by bus to Giverny.

Don't miss it if you enjoy gardens and like Monet's work.
You can also visit the Monet house and the Museum while you are there.

Sorry if you don't need this information, but just thought I'd mention Musee D'Orsay. In my opinion it's the best gallery in Europe - beautiful building with a huge collection of Impressionists artworks, including many of Monet's....

Sorry - that should of course be Gare St Lazare and Vernon!

We were just there in June and it is brilliant. We have visited in April, June, July and October and found it wonderful each time. Train connections above are exactly right, but you have options for getting to the garden from Vernon. Bus or taxi but you can also walk about 2 or 3 miles or you can rent a bicycle just across from the Vernon train station. We have done all of those. If you take the bus be sure to check the return schedule as they are not as often as you might think.

The gardens are definitely worth the trip from Paris. While in Giverny, you can also visit the Museum of the American Impressionists and their garden. They are having a special exhibit right now and it looks quite good. The little town of Giverny is also a lovely place to explore. You can check the web site for schedules, transportation info and prices. It also will give you a schedule of what is blooming when you visit if that is a help to you.

I do think it's worth the trip, not only for the Monet's museum & gardens but for the village itself and the countryside ride between Vernon and Giverny (I did it by bike and it was so much fun). The entire trip is very pleasant and if you're interested in doing something different from the usual Paris-sightseeing and you like Monet's artwork & history and also enjoy nature I'd definitely recommend that you go there.

I went there around this same time of the year, last year....... and the water gardens were beautiful, as was the garden right in front of Monet's house. His house is full of replicas of his works, but as they said, you may want to see some originals at D'Orsay and L'Orangerie (within Tuilleries gardens, they have their gigantic wall-size paintings of water lilies exposed here). But the day trip is nice and I think this is a great season to visit the gardens. Have fun.

When I visited there 2 weeks ago it was beautiful!

I do suggest you check on the train schedule from St Lazare, as we missed the 8:00am train on the Saturday and had to wait until 12:00 for the next train to Vernon.
