How long? Posted: Tue August 5, 2008 01:29 PM UTC
How long it can take to drive from Sirmione to Milano Malpensa airport?
We will drive on Sunday morning in November. We have to be in airport at 12:00, do you think we still have time from the Sirmione (we leave at 8:000 to visit Cathedral in Milano?
is it a big possibility to get into trafic jamm in Milano on Sunday morning?
Thank you very much

Hi,
From Sirmione to Malpensa you have abt 2 hours driving on A4 highway until Milano EST Exit, following abt 12 km of free of charge A4 until the cross street to A8 to Malpensa. Total km abt 180/200
From Sirmione to Milano highway exit (Milano EST) you need about 1 hour and 15 minutes, it depends from the traffic and the weather, and from Milano highway main exit to Milano downtown you need at least 20/30 minutes, because the streets around downtown are more busy and you cannot easily arrive to the Cathedral.
From Milano downtown to Maplensa airport you will travel for more than 1 hour, considering that you don't know the route to exit from the city.
I suggest you to leave Sirmione on saturday morning and to stey in hotel in Milano in the evening.

Hi Letute! I have looked for your itinerary on ViaMichelin and here is what I got as "recommended" itinerary:
http://tinyurl.com/6z69ro (I hope it works)
Anyway, it takes around 2 hours without considering traffic. However, there often are jams on the A4 motorway, especially between Bergamo and Milano. So, I think you would not have the time to visit the wonderful cathedral in Milano if you leave from Sirmione at 8. What suggested above could be a good solution: overnight in Milano, so you will have time to visit the cathedral and then reach Malpensa without worrying about the traffic.

You have answered while I was answering. So, if you cannot overnight in Milano, I'm not sure it's a good idea to leave the motorway, drive to the city centre, then take the motorway again, unless you are very lucky and find no jam between Bergamo and Milano...

I think that Giorgio has the right answer - 4 hours isn't quite enough to safely do this...Why can't you leave Sirminone about 6:30? That would put you in Milano city center about 8:30 (unless there is construction). You could spend 2 hours there, and leave about 10:30 for the airport, which, indeed, should take about an hour, unless, as Giorgio suggests, you get confused and make a wrong turn or two. ;-)
In any case, you need to give yourself more time for this adventure...

Thank you very much for help. If i was traveling myself only, then I wake up at 5 in the morning just to reach the roof of Milano cathedral, i love to be there. But my coleagues are quite spoiled people, so I will see if they want to wake up early. we go with my colleagues to this small trip instead of Christmas party. Your information and advices were very usefull for me, thank you very much. I am here if you need any info about Lithuania ;-)
