Re: Where to stay at Berchtesgaden would be more convenient? Posted: Thu August 7, 2008 11:52 PM UTC
You have to go through Berchtesgaden on the way to Königssee, so you will see both places anyway. And it's only a few kilometres away, so no problem at all.
Difficult to remember the names of the hotels...
One of them was Alpenhotel Kronprinz:

Is above the town centre with good views. The prices still seem reasonable. Click on "Zimmerpreise" for the rates.
You can check out more in this google result:

You must imagine Berchtesgaden as a small and compact place, so you can reach nearly every hotel on foot. Only beware of hotels several kilometres outside town - but this should be mentioned in the descriptions. I once stayed in one outside... There was a bus stop nearby - but no views and not a very handy location if you had no car...
On the website of this hotel: http://www.alpenhotel-fischer.de/anfahrtsskizze/index.php
you see quite well how Berchtesgaden is layed out. "Markt Berchtesgaden" is the town. "Bahnhof" means Railway Station.
(BTW Rates (= Preise) of this hotel look quite reasonable, and it is located on the road to Königssee, bus stop two minutes away.)
This:
http://www.berchtesgadeninfo.de/
is Berchtesgaden's tourist website with English version and an extensive accommodation guide. I just looked over the page. Already the photos of the hotels in this picture-perfect landscape make you want to get there immediately ;-)
For hotels at Königssee you have to look at: Schönau am Königssee.
Hotel Schiffmeister is great.
Have you considered staying a night longer and visit Eagle's Nest which is just a short drive (bus) from Berchtesgaden? Or do you visit in winter? (In this season the road is closed.)
