Hollywood LAX to Hollywood
Posted: Sun August 3, 2008 08:41 PM UTC
I have a 6 hour layover in L.A. and would like to visit Hollywood while I'm waiting for my next flight. Can I take the metro from LAX to Hollywood & Vine? Is that the best stop to see the most tourist attractions in a short amount of time?

Thanks!

Another safe option from the airport in 6 hours is Venice Beach. Both are easily reachable in a cab ride, which may be the easiest in order to ensure you are there and back as quickly as possible. If you are heading to Hollywood, 6 hours will be fine to see a few things, but bear in mind that you do want to be back to the airport with plenty of time if you are on an international flight, as the check-in lines can sometimes be long. If you are an elite flyer without bags, then an hour is fine. If you are going to need to check bags and do not have status with the airline, 2 hours may be more important. If you want a quick lunch, eat an In N Out burger on your way back to the airport.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the info! I actually have 9 hours between flights so was allowing 6 for sightseeing, meals etc... Do you know if the metro runs from the airport (LAX) to Hollywood?

Jack

Hi Jack,

I think you can take the Metro from LAX to Hollywood and Vine, there seems to be a free shuttle from LAX to the Metro.

Also you might consider stopping at the Hollywood and Highland station which is nearer to Grauman's Chinese Theatre with the Kodak Theatre Complex.(which is now the permanent location for the Academy Awards.) Also in this new complex you will find restaruants, nightclubs, even a luxury hotel. The Walk of Fame is also in this area as well.

If there isn't too much smog you may even look up the side street and see at a distance, the Hollywood Sign.

You may also consider taking the FlyAway bus from LAX to Union Station where you can take the Metro Red Line train to Hollywood and Vine. From there you can walk to Hollywood and Highland, which has more attractions. At Hollywood and Highland, there are several tour operators if you are interested in seeing stars' homes and other LA attractions. There's also a metro train station at Hollywood and Highland so you don't have to go back to Hollywood and Vine to catch the train back to Union Station (and then the FlyAway bus back to LAX).
