Kruger National Park Travel Forum

Hi everybody,

I will be travelling to Cape Town next January. From there I want to do a safari and Kruger was best recommended.

Do I have to fly to Johannesburg? How to get to Kruger from there?

Is it easy to buy a safari at Johannesgburg? Is there any better way to contract it? Do I have to book it in advance?

There are flights to Kruger Park Airport from Johannesburg - if you fly from Cape Town change flights in Johannesburg.
Alternatively you can also drive - about 4 hours from Johannesburg or take a bus Greyhound / Translux / Intercape from Joahannesburg to Nelspruit or Malelane.
You can book Safaris once you are in South Africa - if in Cape Town go and visit the Tourist Information in the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront and they make all the arrangements there - you also have the option to visit the National Parks Board Offices for comparisons.

I flew from Cape Town to Nelspruit where I rent a car for a week (from the airport) and drove to Kruger National Park which was about a 1.5 hr drive if my memory serves me correctly. I entered the Lower Sabie gate - stayed at Satara, Oliphants and Skukuzu where I exited and drove back to Nelspruit.

The plane tickets were a bit spendy. The people I rented the car from provided us with a map and great directions. Make sure you make it to the park before the gates close. This is a great and offical website for KNP:
