Sorry, have not stayed there myself, so I cannot advise as to the apartments. For your information, Fortitude Valley is a bit of a night-life mecca for Brisbane. There are quite a few nightclubs in the suburb and is also popular among the younger pub and restaurant afficionados. The downside, of course, is those among the younger set who cannot control their alcohol intake.
The upside is that Fortitude Valley is very centrally located - close to the city, not too far from the airport, near the river etc. New Farm park is a lovely haven for young families, and from there a ride on the City Cat is a must.
There is also a train station in Brunswich Street, which allows for easy public transport into Roma Street where buses leave for other areas, such as the Gold or Sunshine Coasts.

I have not stayed here, but Fortitude Valley isnt a great area. Generally a bit "dodgy" and is all about the nightlife and can be a bit rough. I would personally look for accom out of the Valley if I had a baby, and wanted to get some sleep!
On the plus side, it does have some cool boutique shops and the train station makes getting about easy.

I agree with both former posts and I would suggest that you move down Brunswick Street into New Farm. I live in New Farm and it is a fabuoous inner city suburb. One block of apartments which comes to mind is the Allender in Brunswick Street on the corner of Moreton Street.. Her you will be right at a bus stop not to mention a wonderful little shopping village with lots of restaurants available as well. You can stroll to the park and maybe take a ride on the City Cat into the City. Details below:
