Visiting Hohenschwangau, Neuschwanstein (Fussen) & Linderhof Palace in one day Posted: Fri August 1, 2008 11:24 AM UTC
Hello,
We will base at Munich. Because of tight schedule, I am wondering if we can take public transports (train/bus) to get around Hohenschwangau, Neuschwanstein (Fussen) & Linderhof Palace in one day. Is it possible?
If yes, I intend to visit Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein first, how can I go to Linderhof Palace from Fussen? How long will it take?
Many thanks.

We have just returned from Garmisch - Partenkirhcen in Bavaria, there is a bus from there to Fussen for timetable see www.rvo.de. try e mailing fussen tourist info for help www.fussen.de or even www.garmisch-partenkirchen.de are the websites, you'll find the e-mail addresses there or even www.munich.de.look at the german rail site click on the english version and check out the LANDER ticket.it is a daily pass for up to 5 people valid from 0905 a.m to midnight and allows unlimited rail travel inbavraia per day for 29 euros total it also covers the s bahn from the airport to Munich main rail station(normal fare 8 euros each)so 29 devide by 5 is great value and you can get off and on the trai all day.

I won't suggest visiting Fussen and Linderhof Palace in one day. When we did the trip some years back, we spent a day for Fussen alone. It is about 2 hour train ride from Munich hauptbahnhof and another 10-15 minute bus ride to the castles. Then you have to get a ticket/schedule for the castle tour. Offhand, you'll be spending another 3-4 hours for this including waiting time and shuttling between the 2 castles (either on foot or horse-drawn carriage).
As I know, Linderhof Palace is close to Munich and maybe you could squeeze it when you tour the city. Unfortunately for us, we were supposed to go there after Olympic Park but the train bugged down so forego the plan.

DB timetable
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en
From: Munich
To: Hohenschwangau
To: Schloss Linderhof
Hohenschwangau is the bus stop next to the ticket centre for Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles.
You can reserve tickets/tours in advance, avoiding the risk that the next few tours are all already sold out when you arrive there. Keep in mind that you have to collect the reserved ticket at least 1 hour before the tour starts.

Schloss Linderhof is not as well connected by public transport as Hohenschwangau.

It is not realistic to undertake both trips in one day. For the train/bus schedule to Fuessen/ Hohenschwangau & also to Schloss, Ettal-Linderhof, you can also use the www.bahn.de website. It does translate to English. For Hohenschwangau/Neuschwanstein, the web page is: www.hohenschwangau.de. It has transport, and ticketing links, plus others. It will translate as well. If you could possibly work it in, I would try to visit the Wieskirche, in Steingaden, on your Hohenschwangau trip. The busses to the area are infrequent, as are tours in English. It is worth at least an attempt to visit though. On the Linderhof trip, you might additionally try to visit the Ettal Monastery. It is quite a breath-taking sight in it's own right. Gary

I think to get to all those places in one day is to go on an organised tour.
